What We do
Olive Branch runs the public naloxone distribution and legal syringe exchange for seven rural counties in Western NC – Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, Lincoln, Gaston, Iredell and Alexander. We consist of Michelle Mathis, Executive Director/Co-founder; Karen Lowe, Co-founder and Certified Peer Support Specialist; and volunteer Tim Nolan, NP.
We work specifically with IV drug users, sex workers, and LGBTQ communities. We partner with local agencies, as well as several civic organizations in an effort to educate individuals on harm reduction principles. (See below)
In additional to our syringe exchange related work, we also work closely with the homeless community, cooking one to two days a week and distributing that food to local day shelters. We collect and distribute food, clothing, and hygiene supplies for them as well.
